Future-Fit Talent: What Leading Organisations Are Doing Now
This post is part of our “Future-Fit Talent” series, drawn from our latest survey of 280+ Australian HR and L&D professionals. Each week we unpack a different insight from the research and share practical steps you can apply right away.
HR leaders across Australia are preparing for a very different future, one shaped by technology, economic flux, and shifting skills requirements. In our national survey of 280+ HR professionals, three trends stood out as top concerns over the next three years: advancements in AI and technology (39%), economic uncertainty (37%), and evolving skill needs (37%).
Each of these trends brings complexity. They require new ways of thinking about talent: not as fixed roles to be filled, but as adaptable capabilities to be developed. And while disruption is a given, preparation isn’t. That’s where the leading organisations are setting themselves apart.
We found that 84% of professionals surveyed are already taking steps to get ahead. Most are focusing on internal development:
- 50% are upskilling or reskilling their existing employees
- 46% are investing in their current workforce
- 41% are adopting new technologies
However, only 21% are bringing in external experts to support this change. While internal capability building is important, there’s a risk in going it alone, especially when navigating unfamiliar challenges like AI adoption or cross-functional skills development.
The organisations that will thrive are those that combine internal strength with strategic partnerships and data-driven insights.
So, ask yourself: Are you building a workforce for today, or preparing for tomorrow?
