This post is part of our “Future-Fit Talent” series, drawn from our latest survey of 280+ Australian HR and L&D professionals. Each week we unpack a different insight from the research and share practical steps you can apply right away.
AI in assessment is no longer frontier tech. 18% of HR professionals surveyed already apply AI in talent acquisition, and 26% have AI-enabled assessments live across the broader talent cycle. Add those planning a rollout within twelve months, and adoption climbs to 63%. A further 22% are interested but hesitant, while 23% have no plans at all.
Adoption skews by industry, with professional and corporate industries leading at 73%, and skilled-trade and service-oriented industries trailing at 49%. Readiness is rising fast, as 86% of HR professionals expect AI to have a significant impact on their business this year1.
What sets successful adopters apart?
- Transparency wins trust. Choose supervised models that let recruiters and candidates see which inputs drive the recommendation.
- Audit for fairness. Track adverse-impact ratios and performance correlations every quarter to catch drift early.
Barriers remain for AI tools such as: privacy concerns (19%), skill gaps (13%) and lingering accuracy doubts (11%) , but they’re all solvable with the right policy, training and tools.
